China has exceptional rail travel options between its larger cities.
Despite over 155 ports of entry and exit, most visitors to China travel via Hong Kong, Shanghai or Beijing. Long distance busses are one of the best means of getting around on the ground; they are frequent and cheap. An even better mode is the train, which reaches into every province along a 52,000 kilometer (32,311 miles) network.
Inter-country flights have seen a rise in popularity. Though China has exceptional rail travel options between its larger cities, flights can cut down a lot of travel time, especially if you do not have a lot of time to spend and want to see what each region in China has to offer. Now a ticket from Hong Kong to Beijing is often cheap enough that it can be well worth the time to investigate.
